They call me a seducer, an adventurer, a libertine. But I consider myself just a curious man, thirsty for freedom.
My origins
Venice was my first teacher.
Amidst calli, theaters and intrigue, I learned that every man wears a mask, and that the truth lies in the details.
As the son of actors, I was immersed in art since I was a child. Curiosity has guided me ever since, pushing me to know, to experience, to live.
My rise
I have traveled all across Europe, from Paris to Vienna, from London to Prague.
Everywhere I went, I was greeted by curiosity and distrust, admiration and scandal.
I conversed with kings and philosophers, played, wrote, seduced. But deep down I was always looking for the same thing: a reflection of my freedom.
My adventures
I have loved many times, and each time with sincerity.
I took risks, fought duels, and defied the rules, until I ended up in the Piombi, Venice’s most feared prison. And yet, even from there, I escaped. Not out of vanity, but to reaffirm what I have always believed: freedom cannot be imprisoned.
My ideas
I was always hungry for ideas: I studied the laws of men and the mysteries of nature, questioned faith, science, and even myself. Knowledge never gave me certainty, but endless questions to pursue.
The final act
In my later years, I decided to write everything down. Not to defend myself, but to tell the story of a man who lived without masks.
In my pages, I left behind my times, my mistakes, my passions. Those who read my words may perhaps find something of themselves between the lines of my life.
My life lies within these lines....
My words guide you beyond appearances: memories, vices, virtues, and unspoken truths. Listen to what I have truly chosen to tell: my Venice, my passions, my life.
My relationship with Zaguri
Pietro Zaguri was more than a friend to me: he was a confidant, a kindred spirit and a companion in wit. Within the rooms of his palace, I found understanding, protection and that freedom of thought that gave voice to my life.
